Character vs Reputation

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

‘Character’ isn’t defined, but I’m assuming Mr. Wooden would like us to be decent, kind human beings. But don’t we realise our true character through our interactions with others? Through the situations in which we are challenged?
